February 12th Workshop

We will continue our examination of  building WordPress websites & how social media & Search Engine Optimization is used to draw visitors to a website.

For WordPress we will look at the following areas regarding the use of images:

• The WordPress built in image editor (14A)
• Sizing images in text editor of the dashboard
• The Edit Image window
• Inserting a gallery of images into a post

Then depending on time we can also cover:

• Optimization of a webpage for high search engine ranking

Last minute addition:

• Migrating an older website to WordPress 

January 15th Workshop

We will be continuing with our examination of  building WordPress websites & how social media & Search Engine Optimization is used to draw visitors to your website.

For WordPress we will look at the following:

• How to edit the title, description & hover text for images (13A)
• Image hyperlinks, alignment & sizing
•  Sizing images specifically for the web
• Using the built-in image editor

We can also cover the image hosting website - Flickr

• how it can be used for social media success
• Flickr provides an unbelievable memory storage of 1 terabyte which is free 
• Unlike Facebook, it does not compress images

November 13th Wokshop

We will be continuing with our examination of building WordPress websites & how social media is used as a marketing tool to draw visitors to your WordPress website.

For WordPress we will look at the following:

• Adding a new page to a site 
• Working with images, video & documents
• Inserting an image into a post

Examining social media, we will look at the following:

• LinkedIn is considered to be the third most popular site behind Facebook & Twitter
• recognizing this, we will examine how to attract visitors using LinkedIn

Then depending on time & interest we can also cover:

• Webpage optimization for search engine ranking (SEO)

October 9th Workshop

The September workshop was called off after about 30 minutes due to the excessive heat that we experienced on that day. As a result, we will follow the September 11th agenda as posted below.

September 11th Workshop

Starting for this workshop, we will be expanding the scope of the Website Design workshop.  Up to this point we have been focusing on the building of websites.  But the process of drawing visitors to a website is just as important as the building the website, so as a result, we will expand our scope to include this important aspect. We plan to investigate:

• how the Internet is used as a marketing tool
• drawing in visitors through the best search engine optimization (SEO) practices - this month keywords
• how to draw visitors using social media - this month we will look at LinkedIn
• continue our study of building websites

We will also briefly examine OneNote which is a note taking software by Microsoft. This is an interesting app since it is cloud based & allows simultaneous collaboration anywhere on the web.
