December 10th workshop

This month we will work on building a new website for PC Renew using WordPress as a class exercise.

We are willing to take this project because the PC Renew site is a more straight-forward site than the main club site, and since our workshop had built the original PC Renew site, we have a strong familiarity with it.

This project will include:
  • Selecting a host & domain name
  • Installing WordPress
  • Selecting a theme
  • Create the website
  • Presenting the resulting site to Jimmy & Gary
  • Making changes as requested by Jimmy & Gary
  • Bringing the site live
The workshop starts at 7PM. See Directions.

A special project for this workshop
We will continue our search for a WordPress theme for our club website. Additionally, we will develop some preliminary requirements for content & navigation.

    March 12th Workshop

    Updating the club's website

We will start this month's workshop with a demonstration of updating the club's website, wpcug.org.  Our website has a unique and dramatic look and it works well for our members as well as for any new visitor.  It loads very quickly and ranks high in Google search results.  It's only drawback is that it was created almost 15 years ago using the FrontPage website creator and this fact makes updating the site somewhat complicated. If you are interested in how our site is updated, then this workshop is for you.

    WordPress

After this demo, we will continue with learning WordPress & will look at the following:

  • Inserting a gallery of images into a post
  • Adding Audio & Video files to a website
  • Adding  large documents to a website
  • Friday, February 7, 2014

    • The WordPress built in image editor (14A)
    • Sizing images in text editor of the dashboard
