November 13th Wokshop

We will be continuing with our examination of building WordPress websites & how social media is used as a marketing tool to draw visitors to your WordPress website.

For WordPress we will look at the following:

• Adding a new page to a site 
• Working with images, video & documents
• Inserting an image into a post

Examining social media, we will look at the following:

• LinkedIn is considered to be the third most popular site behind Facebook & Twitter
• recognizing this, we will examine how to attract visitors using LinkedIn

Then depending on time & interest we can also cover:

• Webpage optimization for search engine ranking (SEO)

October 9th Workshop

The September workshop was called off after about 30 minutes due to the excessive heat that we experienced on that day. As a result, we will follow the September 11th agenda as posted below.

September 11th Workshop

Starting for this workshop, we will be expanding the scope of the Website Design workshop.  Up to this point we have been focusing on the building of websites.  But the process of drawing visitors to a website is just as important as the building the website, so as a result, we will expand our scope to include this important aspect. We plan to investigate:

• how the Internet is used as a marketing tool
• drawing in visitors through the best search engine optimization (SEO) practices - this month keywords
• how to draw visitors using social media - this month we will look at LinkedIn
• continue our study of building websites

We will also briefly examine OneNote which is a note taking software by Microsoft. This is an interesting app since it is cloud based & allows simultaneous collaboration anywhere on the web.

June 12 Workshop

Recently, Yahoo paid $1.1 Billion for a micro-blogging system called Tumblr.  During the first hour of the workshop we will briefly investigate what all the fuss is about.  Then we'll continue our study of WordPress and cover the lessons from the book we are using.  This month's the topics will include the following:

• Creating lists
• Working with Headings
• Displaying Meta boxes
• Working with media - images, video, documents, PDFs, etc

Then during the second hour we will continue building a WordPress website using the theme we selected in December's workshop.  

We will be meeting at 7 PM  at Stepinac,  in room G1, in the basement.  See directions tab

May 8 Worshop

During the first hour of the workshop we will cover the lessons from the book we are using.  This month's the topics will include the following:

April 10 Workshop

During the first hour of the workshop we will cover the lessons from the book we are using.  This month's the topics will include the following:

• Using anchors for a linkable table of contents
• Ways of importing text
• Advanced Posting Options
• Working with media - images, video, documents, PDFs, etc

Then during the second hour we will continue building a WordPress website using the theme we selected in December's workshop.

March 13 Workshop

During the first hour of the workshop we will cover the lessons from the book we are using.  This month the topics will include the following:

• Working with the Text Editor
• Creating Lists
• Adding a new page
• Then if there's time, we will start working with media content (images, etc.)

Then during the second hour we will continue building a WordPress website using the theme we selected in December's workshop.
