June 8th Workshop

For this workshop we are planning to discuss:

  • We will do a brief introduction to WordPress if new members show up 
  • We will celebrate this - the last workshop of this season & will resume in Sept.
  • Demo a local install of WordPress - no hosting needed
  • Demo the code required to make a webpage mobile friendly
  • Demo how to redirect from an old website to a new website
  • More to come as we approach June 8.............

  • Building WordPress sites, we will cover:
    • Installing and managing themes
    • Modifying the stylesheet
    • The importance of titles for Search Engine Optimization
  • In the area of website security we will examine what we're up against
    • Our security scanner WordFence has published a study on how hackers post scripts to anonymous servers where the downloaded script creates a larger download called an attack platform which with a graphical user interface (GUI) provides a hacker with a multitude of attack tools
    • WordFence has provided us with an insiders view as to what these attack platforms look like

The areas we will cover: 
  • We will do a brief introduction to WordPress if new members show up
  • Will open up with any questions that attendees might have. Then with remaining time we will discuss the following
    • We will attempt to convert the new PC Renew site to a "responsive" website
      • Meaning that we will make it mobile friendly. Find out what this is all about & why it's important for many reasons
    •  As examples of Social Media, we will examine the following:
      • Google+
      • Using meetup.com to increase club membership
